Stories of challenges and hope: Immigrants in the Israeli educational system
Gordon Academic College
Course Designer & Lecturer: Dr. Roxana Reichman
Course Description:
This course focuses on the narratives of immigrants. Students will learn to create a respectful classroom environment that value differences, many voices, and various learning styles of storytelling and interviewing.
The students will be exposed to narrative interviews, autobiographies and personal stories in order to see how they can be used in learning and research. The students learn to interpret their own stories as well as the stories of other people and realize how this understanding can help them as future teachers. The course provides students with an opportunity to enhance their ability to listen with empathy to stories, to better understand the relationship between stories we hear and our own experience, and to reflect on the historical, social, cultural and political context of life stories.
