Media and forced migrants in the Israeli context and beyond

Ben Gurion University of Negev

Course Designer & Lecturer: Dr. Noam Tirosh

Course Description:

Contemporary experiences of forced migrants and asylum seekers, are increasingly mediated. They use media in their homelands, during their transitions, and in hosting countries. At the same time, local media establishment frame forced migrants and discuss their presence, thus influencing how displaced persons are being welcomed in shelter states. Exploring this contemporary mediatization, the course addresses forced migrants’ media and communication needs. Using narrative interviews with these migrants, the course asks students to suggest a holistic media and communication policy that answers these migrants’ communication needs.
